Regional Governance and Global Governance: Links and Explanations

Kacowicz This article examines the possible links between regional governance and global governance from a regional perspective. It presents and develops a typology of linkages that include: (1) irrelevance; (2) conflict; (3) coopera- tion; and (4) harmonic relations. Moreover, it suggests three alternative explanations to make sense of the linkages as a function of the nature of the issue area of regional and global governance, the role of pivotal states, and the importance of ideational factors and the diffusion of norms. It succinctly refers to the Latin American experience as an illustra- tion of the nexus between regional governance and global governance in a comparative perspective. Regional arrangements may not fit neatly into existing global arrange- ments, but neither are they “islands” isolated from the larger context of global governance. The global projection of regions is directly related to the regional-global nexus (i.e., the possible links between regional and global governance). http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Global Governance: A Review of Multilateralism and International Organizations Brill

Abstract

Global Governance 24 (2018), 61–79 Regional Governance and Global Governance: Links and Explanations Arie M. KEYWORDS: global governance, regional gover- nance, regionalism, Latin America, globalization, regional powers. IN THIS ARTICLE, I EXAMINE THE POSSIBLE LINKS BETWEEN REGIONAL GOVER- nance (RG) and global governance (GG) from a regional perspective. Regional arrangements may not fit neatly into existing global arrange- ments, but neither are they “islands” isolated from the larger context of global governance. The global projection of regions is directly related to the regional-global nexus (i.e., the possible links between regional and global governance).
