D’où proviennent les vers cités dans le Roman de Baybars ? La consultation de bases de données informatisées permet de répondre au moins partiellement à cette ques- tion. Cinquante-quatre poèmes ou vers cités dans les trois premiers volumes de l’édition du Roman ont ainsi pu être identiŽ és et rapportés à leur auteur ou à un recueil classique. Il ne s’agit donc pas de vers de mirlitons, mais d’une composante classique que le Roman a intégrée à son univers. Where do the verse lines quoted in S “ rat Baybar § come from? A search in com- puterized data banks provides at least partial answers. Fifty-four poems or lines quoted in the Ž rst three volumes have been identiŽ ed and attributed to an author or to a collection of classic texts. What we have to deal with is certainly not infe- rior poetry; on the contrary, these lines are classics that S “ rat Baybar § integrated into its own universe.
