ISBN 978-7-5097-0554-4. Zhongguo nüxing xingwei de wenhua shyii is a collaborative work by two sociologists, Qian Minhui and Tian Yurong. The book's overall project is to provide readers with a comprehensive explanation for gender inferiority amongst contemporary Chinese women. Their study is characterized more by the authors' integration of existing theories and research than their own fieldwork. Written by Qian Minhui, the first half (Chapters One and Two) positions Chinese women both in the historical context of Chinese traditions and the modern global cultural-geographic sphere. Chapter One gives a broad overview of the changes in women's status from the beginning of Chinese civilization to the modern period. In the early days of the civilization, women enjoyed elevated status and power, as indicated in myths such as the legend of Fu Xi and Nü Wa as sibling progenitors of the Chinese people.
