As well as being used for the purpose for which it was originally obtained, it may be used for various other purposes, which the Committee refers to as 'further use' of human tissue. Questions arise as to the admissibility of such further use of human tissue, the care with which it must be used and the need to obtain the consent of the person from whom it was taken. This report looks at the scope for further use of human tissue, including the ethical and legal aspects and the question of whether such activities need to be regulated and, if so, how. One of the main fields in which human tissue is used is that of medical research.
