The first paper in the inaugural 1989 volume, 'Classical Political Philosophy and Contemporary Biology', by Roger D. Masters, known chiefly for his major studies of Rousseau, aims to show the unexpected common ground between (in particular) Plato and Aristotle and modern biological theories of Nature and Man. This attempt has, at first sight, more chance of success where Aristotle is concerned but Masters is also prepared to argue that Plato's theory of Forms has many points of resemblance to modern genetic theory.
