Introduction PIERRE TEILHARD DE CHARDIN has been ca1led one of the most powerful thinkers of our time. It cannot be denied that in certain Catholic and Protestant circles, his growing influence can scarcely be overestimated. The interest in DE CHARDIN'S "vision" (the word often used by himself to denote his world- and life view) is caused by this attempt to give a new impetus to Christian thought and action in the broadest and deepest sense. His basic aim has aptly been characterized in a letter of priest B. CH.ATE:AU directed to MR. CUENOT (March 4, 1958) that reads: "Is seems to me that the great originality of TEILHARD DE CHARDIN on the religious plane ... consists in having replaced christianity by the Vision of the Universal Christ, the Cosmic Christ. This spiritual attitude is the outcome of the extension of the summits of thought in St. John and St. Paul.
