Friedman is the author of Teamster Rank and File (1982) and articles on workers’ struggles, labour markets and social movements. While in and around the International Socialists (USA) in 1969–79, he helped to organise Teamsters for a Democratic Union and was an active rank-and-file oppositionist in the American Federation of Teachers.
