HOWARD of the Plant Breeding Institute, Cambridge, have counted the chromosomes of Heterodera rostochiensis. The number is 2n = 18 ; both meiotic and mitotic divisions were seen. The chromosome number and appearance is the same in normal and resistance- breaking populations, although few specimens of the latter were prepared. A. H.
