Pp. xvi + 262. £110.00 (hardback), isbn 04 15 72531 3.There are many myths about Muslims in Britain and some of these relate to Muslims’ political agenda. Some commentators have characterized Muslims as being averse to integrating into mainstream democratic processes whereas others claim that Muslims, specifically Islamists, are engaged in a sinister infiltration of British politics. These paradoxical fears about Muslims as both inadequately and excessively political suggest that Muslims not only have a problem with politics, but are a political problem. The persistence of these sensationalist stereotypes means that Muslims and Political Participation in Britain is a welcome contribution. This edited collection contains twelve wide-ranging chapters that pertinently and informatively discuss the various facets of Muslims’ political engagement in Britain. The overarching theme is that Muslims in Britain have been engaging in British politics at the national and local levels for several decades and that these contributions have taken a multitude of forms, which are constantly evolving. In the course of the book, readers are introduced to some of the pioneering Islamic organizations and pivotal Muslim individuals whose visionary agency has led to Muslims in Britain becoming indisputably http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of Muslims in Europe Brill
