ISBN: 9780199280407 (hbk.). Hardback/Paperback: $49.99/27.95. Having taken on the much more robust task of defending the theoretical framework of liberal multiculturalism in his 1995 book Multicultural Citizenship: A Liberal Th eory of Minority Rights (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1995), Will Kymlicka turns his attention in Multicultural Odysseys to the history and future of liberal multiculturalism in the inter- national arena. While the more recent book is certainly consistent with Kymlicka’s earlier theoretical work, it is less a sustained philosophical argument than an eff ort to trace the development of an idea to better understand its current status and its future prospects in international politics. Th is is in no way a weakness of Multicultural Odysseys . Rather, the success of the book relies heavily on the contributions Kymlicka makes to the general understanding of how the philosophical idea of liberal multiculturalism has been imple- mented and how that implementation has fared in various contexts.
