140 Mission Studies Bibliography Robert J. Schreiter, Reconciliation - Mission and Ministry in a Changing Social Order, Orbis Books, Maryknoll, N.Y., 1992 (The Boston Theological Institute Series No. 3), 84 pp. Robert J. Schreiter, C.PP.S., author of the missiological classic ,Constructing Local Theologies' (Orbis, 1985), professor of Historical and Doctrinal Studies at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, presents in this most recent little book the expanded version of his lectures during the 1991 Orlando E. Costas Consultation on Missions at Boston Theological Institute. While he intends to focus,,on societies experiencing a shift in their social order and the need for reconciliation as a society overcomes a violent past" (p. 3) the author admits at the same time that it is the "antecedents of reconciliation, namely the redemption from violence and suffering" which "form the preoccupation of this book" (p. 12). This double goal (due to the combination of formerly separate lectures?) not just divides the four chapter treatment of the subject into actually two main parts, namely a socio-analytical (chs. 1&2) and an explicitly etho-theological one (chs. 3&4). It accounts for the missing coherence of the argument as well, leaving behind a certain disappointment in spite of repeated admonitions
