It is my great pleasure to write a review of this book of Mark Laing, which brings a recovery of scholarship to both the life and work of Bishop Lesslie Newbigin and the study of Christian mission and missionary ecclesiology. The author is to be congratulated for his PhD research in which he focused on the integration of the International Missionary Council ( imc ) with the World Council of Churches ( wcc ) in 1961. The integration symbolized a major revision of Christian mission and ecclesiology of Protestant churches in the past century. His recovery of the decisive role and contribution of Lesslie Newbigin was indeed valuable. Being appointed as the General Secretary of imc in 1959-1961, Newbigin was assigned to construct a re-definition of Christian mission and develop a new understanding of missionary ecclesiology for wcc .
