Having expressed my opinions of this notable work in the review above-mentioned, I consider myself dispensed from repeating them here. De Francisci has rendered a service by citing a number of works, chiefly Italian, which Dr. Buckland had omitted at least to mention. Any one who has experienced the di.fficulty of obtaining Italian books in England will find the omissions more than excusable. In any case bibliographical lacunae are inevitable in the first edition of a general manual when it is, like the present work, written from an independent standpoint. But De Francisci finds a more serious fault, namely the absence of definitions and of presentation of organic principles, and the lack of historical and dogmatic coordination.
