Since it opened its doors to the public in , the Bibliotheca Wittockiana, the book- binding museum in Brussels, has hosted many important exhibitions, several of which concerned collections brought together by the Brussels antiquarian book dealer Eric Speeckaert. Th ree of these exhibitions were devoted to Belgian bookbindings through the ages: Quatre siècles de reliure en Belgique, - exhibitions in ([I]), in (II) and in (III). Luckily, a private collector and the Brussels Royal Library found a means to keep the and collections in Belgium. Another Speeckaert collec- tion, this time devoted to Plantin imprints, was exhibited in : -, Labore et constantia; a collection of editions issued by Christopher Plantin from till . Several books in this exhibition were nicely to even luxuriously bound, but the major- ity of them had utilitarian bindings. Th is collection was also sold to a Belgian private collector, but the
