Law of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic On Free Economic Zones in the Kazakh Ssr 85 LAW OF THE KAZAKH SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLIC ON FREE ECONOMIC ZONES IN THE KAZAKH SSR* Kazakhstanskaia Pravda, 23 January 1991 Chapter I. General Provisions Article 1. Concept of a Free Economic Zone 1. A free economic zone in the Kazakh SSR is a specially designated territory with defined administrative boundaries and a special legal re- gime created with the aim of attracting foreign capital, world-class for- eign technology and management experience for the accelerated socio- economic development of the territory of the zone. 2. All forms of economic, financial or other activity by Soviet and for- eign legal persons and citizens shall be permitted on the territory of a free economic zone except for the manufacturing of items of a direct military nature as well as other types of activity that are prohibited by legislation of the Kazakh SSR. 3. All legal persons situated outside a zone shall be entitled to establish their branches or other enterprises including joint [enterprises] on the territory of a free economic zone. Article 2.
