78 Korte bijdragen ERIK LARSEN A Self-Portrait by Godfried Schalcken Among the known self-portraits by Godfried Schalcken is the one at the Uffizil published some years ago by Anna Maria Crino.2 It shows the artist with a candle, turned to the left. We know from Miss Crino's publication of the correspondence referring to it, that it was commissioned by Cosimo III of Tuscany while the artist resided in England.3 Schalcken received twenty five Pounds Sterling for his work and dispatched it in 1695.4 Hofstede de GrootS describes another self-portrait of Schalcken showing him turned to the right and wearing a wig this time (as opposed to the Uffizi portrait where he 1.
