This copiously annotated (pp. 16-39!) investigation into the identifica- tion of "the Wicked Priest" mentioned in lQpHab and 4QpPs37 is a welcome contribution to the solution of an intricate problem. The majority of scholars still seem to identify "the Wicked Priest" with Jonathan Maccabaeus, although Th. Lim recently admitted that, given the irreconcilably different ways that the figure comes to an end, the term apparently refers to a plurality of figures (cf. JBL 112 (1993), 415-425) and the present reviewer more than ten years ago US 33 (1982), 349-359) argued that "the Wicked Priest" designates successive high priests, from Judas Maccabaeus to Alexander Jannaeus. It is gratifying to learn that the author of this booklet (independently from my own proposals, cf. note 11) concludes that it is impossible to identify the "Wicked
