Happily, this is not the case here, but to assess the nature of the present work it will be relevant broadly to consider what has been done on Herberstein in England, America, and Germany. Herberstein published the original account of his missions to Muscovy in Latin in Vienna in 1549. It soon became popular and came out again in Basel in 1551, 1556, 1567, 1571, 1573, 1574; Antwerp, 1557 (reprinted 1964), and Frankfurt, 1600. Its success encouraged Herberstein himself to prepare Moscovia der Hauptstczt in Reissen ... Sambt des Moskowiter gepiet, und seiner anreiner beschreibung und anzaigung ... in 1557.
