This catalogue of mistakes, which does not pretend to be exhaustive, should not obscure the positive points of this book, especially its fresh use of two important textual witnesses and its Index grammaticus. As a critical edition, however, it has not been prepared with the care required for this type of work. Those wishing to use it will do well to check its contents against earlier editions. * G. A. A. KORTEKAAS REVIEW OF BOOKS * I should like to thank Mr. Dale C. CARR, Groningen, for the translation of this review. Gert LÜDERITZ, Corpus Jüdischer Zeugnisse aus der Cyrenaika, mit einem Anhang von Joyce M. REYNOLDS (Beihefte zum Tübinger Atlas des Vorderen Orients, Reihe B nr. 53), Dr. Ludwig Reichert Verlag, Wiesbaden 1983, xvi and 235 pp., 8 plates, paper DM 58,-. This textbook contains the texts of Jewish origin, or those that directly mention Jews/Jewish themes, from Cyrenaica or related areas. The book will be indispensable for every one working on the history of Cyrenaica in the Roman period (most of the material collected derives of course from the time before the insurrection of 115-117). The importance of the collec- tion, useful in itself, is greatly enhanced by J. M. REYNOLDS'S contribu- tion. She presents not only 25 texts hitherto unpublished (Appendix p. 183-215), but in several instances also new and better readings for texts published previously (among the 79 items into which LuDERITZ has divid- ed his material, there are 26 containing new readings of J. M. REYNOLDS). Although some objections could be made against the classification of the texts (perhaps texts of undisputed Jewish origin should have been kept apart from other ones), the material is easily accessible in this book, the more so because the volume has useful indexes.
