As in James, there are extensive summaries of the Assumption literature, a category of apocryphal work which Hennecke - Schneemelcher excludes altogether. Thus, even in terms of the range of works included in each collection, none who already has Hennecke - Schneemelcher should suppose they do not also need Elliott. Of course, it is also extremely valuable to have two English translations of the works included in both. The greater length of Hennecke - Schneemelcher is really due to its more extensive introductory matter. Elliott's introductions to the texts are usual- ly briefer than those in Hennecke-Schneemelcher, but they are much more informative than those in the original James. They provide the most essential technical information in each case.
