As far as the holistic approach is concerned, the Tantric dictum sarvam sarv atmakam , “everything is related to the totality” (or “every detail is related to the whole”), can serve as a kind of magic key to these concepts. In her introduction to this volume, B ¨ aumer cites sarvam sarv atmakam as an epigraph, and proposes (p. xiii): the absence of a preconceived interpretive scheme should enable the reader from any discipline to identify interconnections between basic concepts from the original texts in pursuit of his own specific interest, and to spread his research beyond the immediate confines of the lexicon. Each chapter has a ‘Select Bibliography’, rather a guide to further reading, in as much as the secondary literature used in the text is gener- ally not or not sufficiently identified.
