Electrophoretic data supporting the specific rank of the frog Rana graeca italica Dubois, 1985 Orfeo Picariello, Giovanni Scillitani, Massimo Cretella Dipartimento di Zoologia, Università di Napoli, Via Mezzocannone 8, 1-80134, Napoli, Italy Rana graeca Boulenger, 1891 is a brown frog of the Rana temporaria species-group, with a distribution area in the Italian and the Balkan peninsulas; the populations of the two areas are geographically separated from each other (Arnold and Burton, 1978). Dubois (1985) found some morphological differences between the two populations which led him to regard them as distinct subspecies, R. graeca italica Dubois, 1985, and R. graeca graeca Boulenger, 1891, respectively. In this note we present some elec- trophoretic data suggesting the recognition of full specific status for R. graeca italica.
