DIMORPHIC MALES OF THE PENAEID SHRIMP PARAPENAEOPSIS HARDWICKII (MIERS, 1878) BY MUZAMMIL AHMED and NASEEM MOAZZAM Institute of Marine Biology, University of Karachi, Karachi-32, Pakistan During an investigation of the species composition of a group of penaeid shrimps locally known as 'Kiddi' obtained from shrimp landings at the Karachi Fish Harbour (Ahmed, 1977) it was realized that males of the fairly abundant species Parapenaeopsis hardwickii (Miers, 1878) are dimorphic for the shape and size of their rostra so that two clearcut types of males can be distinguished.
