National Museum The isopod described in this paper was discovered by Dr. William Gosline, University of Hawaii, during his studies on the biology of the host. I am grateful to Dr. Gosline for sending me the isopods and for discussing with me his ob- servations made in the field at Hawaii. In this paper I follow Steinberg and Dougherty (1957) in the spelling of "pereon" and its derivatives and use the terms "pereonite" and "pleonite" as recommended by Wolff (1956). , Lironeca puhi 1 ) , new species . Head about 1.4 times wider than long, slightly immersed in first pereonite; anterior end bent under and ending in a rounded point between bases of first antennae. Eyes well developed. First two pereonites subequal in length; third a little longer; fourth the longest; fifth to seventh progressively decreasing in length.
