Dr Hans Thomas Hakl’s lengthy and closely documented introduction to the life and work of Dr Franz Sättler provides an invaluable context for this new edition of an obscure study course in practical occultism, thereby disclosing his activities and role in the occult subculture of interwar German- speaking Europe. In the 1910 s and 1920 s Sättler published half a dozen works on occultism, five travel novels with esoteric themes, and five other occult novels. He also edited an occult magazine and presided over a magical lodge, and elaborated the esoteric-gnostic doctrine he called Adonism.
