In diesem Zusammenhang darf die Tatsache erwahnt werden, daB z. B. der afrikanische Bischof Sextilianus, der als Vertreter des Bischofs von Karthago in der 5. Sitzung des Konzils von Konstantinopel (553) sprach, damals u. a. 7 Augustinus-Zitate, die 5 verschie- denen Schriften entnommen waren, zur Verlesung brachte; vgl. Mansi IX 260 f. Berthold Altaner DE OECUMENICA LINGUAE LATINAE PRONUNTIATIONE RECENTIORIBUS DOCUMENTIS PONTIFICIIS COMMENDATA "Latinae linguae usus, ut apud magnam Ecclesiae partem viget, perspicuum est venustumque unitatis signum", solemniter testante Pio Papa Duodecimo.1 Talis autem unitatis efficaciam plus minusve minui ex differenti pronuntiatione idiomatis latini neminem fugit.' lam aevo medio istae differentiae sapienter sunt observatae. Nam apud loannem Wyclif legimus: "Diversae linguae habent diversum modum sonandi etiam latinum, ut patet in sonatione huius litterae C." 1/ Quidam porro Anonymus saeculi decimi quinti insinuate "Nota quod caelum Wscriptum sic non debet proferri . kaelum, sed zaelum, non divisas syllabas vel vocales, sed diphtongatas in'unam syllabam ut za za."
