It comprises two separate studies entitled a) ‘Materials for the History of the Functions Pertaining to the Officiating Spiritual Teacher-cum-Donee on the One Hand and the Royal Donor on the Other and of Their Relationship’; b) ‘Religious Science and the Secular Sciences in India and Tibet; Remarks on the Nature and Goals of Indo-Tibetan Studies’. Since even the titles of these two main parts of the book hint at the great complexity of the topics discussed in it, in the helpful and detailed foreword the key technical terms are clarified and an overview is given of the themes dealt with together with welcome methodological remarks (pp. 7–12).
