ISTITUZIONI E FONTI CONCORSI E PREMI ALL'ACCADEMIA DELLE SCIENZE DI TORINO: PROGRAMMI DI RICERCA E STRATEGIE DI POLITICA SCIENTIFICA M A R C O C I A R D I UniversitÃ � di Bologna SUMMARY Competitions were one of the principal instruments used by academies to stimulate scientific activity, in the domains of b o t h p u r e and applied sciences. This is d e m o n s t r a t e d by the n u m e r o u s eighteenth century competitions in the fields of astronomy, mathematics, electrology and chemical technology. In this article we examine two specific cases that concern the history of t h e Academy of Sciences in Turin during the period of the Risorgimento. RIASSUNTO I concorsi costituivano uno dei principali strumenti utilizzati dalle Ac- cademie per stimolare l'attivitÃ � degli scienziati sia nell'ambito della scienza pura che di quella applicata, basti pensare ai vari concorsi settecenteschi re- lativi all'astronomia, alla matematica, all'elettrologia o alla tecnologia chimi- ca. Nell'articolo vengono presi in esame due casi specifici concernenti la sto- ria dell'Accademia delle Scienze di Torino durante l'etÃ � del Risorgimento.
