28 Prof. Claude Cahen that we discovered that we were both working on this MS., which I had seen for the first time in Milan in 1953. It has been a great pleasure to accept the courteous offer of colla- boration from so distinguished a scholar and medievalist as Pro- fessor Cahen, made on his learning of my own preoccupation with the Mulahhas al-Fitan. Professor Cahen has been able to solve the difficulties of the numerical notation which would not have been an easy matter for me, but the text will still present many problems of interpretation and commentary which I fear it may take us some time to solve. R. B. SERJEANT CLAUDE CAHEN AND R. B. SERJEANT II.
