Christianity as a World Religion 260 Book Reviews / International Journal of Public Theology 5 (2011) 233–263 Sebastian Kim and Kirsteen Kim, Christianity as a World Religion (London: Contin- uum, 2008), pp. vi + 272, £19.99, ISBN 978-0-8264-9841-0 (pbk). With the centenary of the Edinburgh 1910 International Missionary Conference not long past, Christianity as a World Religion , which addresses issues relevant to Christian- ity in the twenty-first century, is a timely and significant reminder of the global breadth and diversity of the Christian religion. Kim and Kim note the tremendous shifts that have occurred in world Christianity over the last hundred years, and they rightly observe that it has ‘changed out of all recognition’ (p. 223). The authors ably sketch out the history and contemporary reality of Christianity in Europe, Africa, Latin America, North America and Asia, highlighting key issues pertaining to regional and local contexts within these continents. The authors have attempted the impossible: condensing a multi-volume subject into a coherent single publication. This is made possible through careful methodologi- cal crafting of both geographical regions and religious categorization, including the Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant traditions, as well as Pentecostalism. Yet the authors do not confine themselves to these categories http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Journal of Public Theology Brill
