Books & printing in the Netherlands 2001 M athieu L ommen Books & printing in the Netherlands 2001 january The Christmas issue Gra fi sch Nederland for 2000 – entitled Ogenschijnlijk , conceived, created and designed by Will van Sambeek – proved a success: never before were so many copies of a Christmas issue sold. [ Gra fi sche Cultuurstichting Nieuwsbrief , 12 (April 2001 )]. Frits Knuf Antiquarian Books, specialized in books about books, moved its premises from Oss to Vendôme, France, on 1 January. On 9 January the illustrator Carol Voges (b. 1925 ) passed away. He acquired great fame with the comic strip Pa Pinkelman , for which Godfried Bomans wrote the texts. This comic strip appeared in de Volkskrant from 1945 until 1952 . Not surprisingly, in this daily newspaper an obituary was published on 11 January. On 12 January type designer and type publisher Frank Blokland opened in the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague the exhibition ‘Helmut Salden: let- terontwerper en boekverzorger’. This retrospective exhibition of Salden ( 1910 - 96 ) ran until 9 February. Hub.
