Marvin Meyer’s Judas tenders a selection of works explicitly or arguably associated with Judas Iscariot, or with the literary ﬁ gure of a ‘betrayer’. Meyer oﬀ ers it in the wake of the recently published Gospel of Judas , to help readers ‘reconsider the ﬁ gure of Judas as presented in ancient texts and translations’ (p. 1). In his introduction, Meyer reviews the text (Codex Tchacos) and content of the Gospel of Judas , but invests most of his energy contrasting what he deems to be the ever increasing viliﬁ cation of Judas Iscariot in most early Christian literature with the more redeeming role Judas plays in the Gospel of Judas . He suggests that this latter proﬁ le creates an occasion for revisiting the ﬁ gure of Judas in the New Testament and in other Christian literature ‘with a fuller recognition of his positive character’ (p.
