What is it like to be surrounded by a large number of excitable people, all speaking at the same time without paying the slightest at- tention to what anybody else is saying? Some answer to this question may be found in the pages of this book, a collection of papers deliv- ered in the year 2000 at a colloquium in Leuven. We are left to guess whether any of the participants actually changed their minds after lis- tening to the papers of their colleagues. There are two exceptions to this generalisation. Hans Joachim Hendrix rounds off the collection from the perspective of a theolo- gian anxious to acknowledge both the clear anti-Jewishness of the Gospel and the obvious evil of anti-Semitism without calling into ques- tion the authority of Scripture.
