Book Reviews 415 Book Reviews Yearbook Maritime Law, Volume II, I. Arroyo, General Editor (Kluwer, Deventer, 1988) ix + 445 pp. ISBN 90-6544-311-8 hardback. Df1.177 UK£52-US$90.- The second volume of the Yearbook Maritime Law (YML), following the pattern set up in the first issue, is divided into seven sections. The first of these contains six articles devoted to major issues of maritime law. Professor Arroyo gives a thorough account of the relationship between international conventions and Spanish law, with special reference to limitation of liability for collision. His article, written eight years ago, puts the emphasis on a restrictive application of international treaties to national incidents which may be subject to a different interpretation by Spanish courts. The provisions on limitation of liability in international transport conventions and the conversion of these amounts into national currencies is studied by Professor Richter-Hannes. He points out that the lack of uniform interpretation of limitation amounts based on goldfrancs gives place to a "judicial lottery" (p. 160) on how limitation provisions based on goldfrancs are to be converted into national currencies, which have lost the given convention basis, the gold quotation. Since 1975 goldfrancs have been replaced by another artificial unit of account, http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png International Journal of Estuarine and Coastal Law (in 1993 continued as The International Journal of Marine and Coastal Law) Brill
