Book reviews Gutenberg-Jahrbuch 1973. Begründct von Aloys Ruppel. Herausgegeben im Auftrag der Guten- berg-Gesellschaft von HANS WIDMANN. Mainz, Verlag der Gutenberg-Gesellschaft, 1973, 4°, 476 pp., illus., DM 60,-. Gutenberg-jahrbuch 1973 begins, quite rightly, with a personal word from the present editor, Professor Hans Widmann, to the man who not only laid the basis for this publication's honoured tradition, but who has also earned the gratitude of all scholars of the book for the way in which that tradition has flourished: the form Professor Widmann's opening takes is a 'Laudatio bei der Feier zu Aloys Ruppels neunzigstem Gcburtstag'. The birthday celebrant must have found the Jallrbuch itself a suitably festive and highly gratifying gift. It is an impressively substantial vol- ume, containing approximately 450 pages of text and more than fifty contributions covering virtually the entire field of books and bibliography. The diversity, and in a very large number of cases the quality of the contents provide a thoroughgoing substantiation of Professor Ruppel's ideals. Both he and the editor who succeeded him are to be congratulated. Amid the wealth of the material on offer - too much for any detailed listing or discussion in an announcement in this periodical
