Book Reviews Chiu Ling-yeong and Donatella Guida (editors). 2006. A Passion for China: Essays in Honor of Paolo Santangelo for his 60th birthday . Leiden, The Netherlands: Brill Academic Publishers; 384 pages, paperback; $160.08 (£96.47) This collection of essays, edited by Chiu Ling-yeong and Donatella Guida, are in honor of an Italian Professor, Paolo Santangelo, for his break- through studies on Chinese cultural history and philosophy for his 60th birthday. The 384-paged volume contains 21 chapters, one of which is in Chinese; three in Italian, and 16 in English language respectively. Having authored, co-authored and editored over 100 articles and books most of which are about Chinese history, culture and philosophy, Professor Santangelo is arguably the most proli fi c and authoritative western aca- demic in the area. To say that he has in fl uenced a great many with his work is unquestionably an understatement; not surprising therefore, that his students, colleagues and friends have chosen to honor him with this Festschrift. The book covers a wide-range of topics, itself an indication of Professor Santangelo’s extensive research interests and impact over the years, includ- ing the social history of China, emotions, philosophy, literature and inter- national relations
