P. 305, last two lines: "(Mo) Hsieh thereupon offered herself, cut her hair and nails and threw herself into the furnace". Prince Lippe draws my attention to the fact that the text here only speaks of cutting her hair and nails and throwing these into the furnace ( 7§ qt ), which was a sacrifice Pays pro toto. He is right. It is in the text of the JVu-ti-chi, quoted on p. 306, that Mo Hsieh is said to have thrown herself into the furnace (gr P. 300, 1. 15 : Between the characters and K- insert P. 306, 1. 16 from top: read .2,. P. 307, 1. 8 from above: Naivasamjnasamjriayatana read Naiv8- samj nanasamj nayatana. P. 310, 1. 15 from top: "he was ashamed that the seasoning of the food" etc. h should be interpreted as "flavored food"; as such it occurs in the Chou-li: Tz'Ú- hai s.v. The translation therefore becomes: "the seasoning of the flavored food was reduced to eight-tenths of the old custom".
