54 of both the New Testament and The Gospel According to Thomas is to inform one how to avoid 'tasting death'; in other words, to aid man in finding salvation and eternal Life in the Kingdom of the Father. Another New Testament reference to the victory of eternal Life over death is found in John viii 51 ff. In this passage Jesus argues with the Jews that He is greater than Abraham and the prophets for He knows the Father and keeps His word (verse 55) and He (Jesus) existed before Abraham (verse 58). Thus, as in the Thomas concept of Kingdom, the pre-existent Jesus is greater than any man from Adam to John the Baptist 1) and whoever knows the revelation of Jesus will share His greatness and overcome death: verse 51-"Truly, truly, I say to you, if any one keeps my word, he will never see death". Thus, according to Paul and John, Jesus is the key to eternal Life. In The Gospel According to Thomas, we shall see that Jesus is not only the key to eternal Life, He is the Life; indeed, He is the Kingdom-Logion 82:" Jesus said... whoever is far from me
