He was interested in landscape, flowers, birds, insects. He was a pioneer in the field of entomology. He initiated a new trend in this science, viz. that of seeing and breeding insects for oneself and then describing and drawing one's observations. His three-volume entomological book Metamorphosis Naturalis (1662-1669) is illustrated with some 150 copper engravings of caterpillars, maggots and pupae of butterflies, flies and other insects previously drawn by him in water colour. Goedaert's opera omnia: his landscapes, flower still-lifes and entomological work show that he loved lucidity.
