SUMMARY1. The pituitary stalk was transected in a series of ferrets and the supraoptic and magnocellular paraventricular nuclei studied quantitatively 10, 30 and 70 days after operation.2. Partial degeneration of both nuclei was present by 10 days, and was more apparent by 30 days.3. An apparent increase in the number of normal neurones occurred between 30 and 70 days.
