Doing a critical reading of a paper presented at a conference you did not attend is a somewhat disembodied experience. Writing about your impressions doesn't help matters: "I wonder if they cleared that up at the conference?" I mutter to myself. Or, "I'm sure they expanded on that in Ottawa."
