N u t t e r , D e r e k Ga a r De r , Jo Ntha a N G u NDe r so N, a N D Ctur Dre NNe N n t he a f t e r m at h of a d e v a s t at i n g tornado, undergraduate meteorology I students from the University of North- ern Colorado (UNC) worked alongside professional crisis counselors to provide severe weather education within local schools a nd com mu n it y set t i ngs. I n providing this volunteer service, students learned about the long-term physical and psychological recovery process endured by storm sur vivors. Congruently, cri- sis counselors found that this weather education campaign helped open new d ia log ues w it h stor m su r v ivors t hat furthered the collective efforts of several recovery and counseling organizations. We expect that lessons learned from this opportune collaborative experience will help guide innovation in outreach op- portunities for students while informing weather
