Afte r an inauspicious start to the year wit h a prolonged ice stor m in San Antonio , whic h caused hundreds of members t o miss the Annual Meeting, the AM S recovered nicely to have a successful year in its many activities in support of our ne w mission statement reflecting our science's service t o society. For th e first tim e in th e 89-year history of the AMS, AMS Mission Statement I asked a panel of experts to take a broad look at our pro- gram s and organization in an external review. W e should all be pleased tha t the pane l foun d the AM S to be a "wel l led and managed membership organization— To advance the one tha t is responsive to and inclusive of its members."
