NEWS AN D Notes Symposium Commemorates 100th Anniversary of Rossby/s Birth An international symposium, "Rossby-100," was held in Stockholm, Sweden, on 8-12 June 1998 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Carl- Gustaf Rossby. The symposium was sponsored by the International Meteorological Institute in Stockholm and the Swedish Geophysical Society and organized by the Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University. AMS was a cooperating organization. Forty-one years have passed since Rossby's death, yet his visionary scientific work and views remain rel- evant today. Ten invited review papers were presented in plenary at the symposium.
