In chapters XXXII-XXXV, Beers discusses his re-entry into society after psychiatric hospitalization, his return to work, and his commitment to hospital reform. In these chapters, Beers also discusses his relapse into "elation," his voluntary commitment, and second and final psychiatric hospitalization, where his treatment was profoundly different than his first hospitalization. Beers notes that his treatment was humane and respectful, which made him even more committed to writing his book on psychiatric hospital reform. Beers concludes these chapters by discussing his return to work, his motivation to write the first draft of his autobiography, and his support from people like William James and Joseph H. Choate.
