Evidence for a Narrow (<20 MeV) Resonance at 530 MeV Decaying into π + π - ?

Evidence for a Narrow (<20 MeV) Resonance at 530 MeV Decaying into π + π - ? Attention is brought to a statistically significant ( ∼ 5 σ ) one-bin (20 MeV) enhancement in the π + π - invariant-mass combinations which is present in two independent experiments on the 2 π - 2 π + annihilations at rest. It is shown that the peak is not due to kinematical reflections from other reactions. Suggestions are made for further clarification of this peak. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Physical Review American Physical Society (APS)

Abstract

Attention is brought to a statistically significant ( ∼ 5 σ ) one-bin (20 MeV) enhancement in the π + π - invariant-mass combinations which is present in two independent experiments on the 2 π - 2 π + annihilations at rest. It is shown that the peak is not due to kinematical reflections from other reactions. Suggestions are made for further clarification of this peak.
