We extend the collective treatment of the SU(3) Skyrme model by including the scaling degree of freedom (size of the pion cloud) as a dynamical variable. The resulting Hamiltonian is diagonalized by a truncation procedure, providing a fascinating spectroscopy and a solution to the puzzle of having two candidates for the Roper N ( 1440 ) resonance. We discuss the mass spectrum of the low-lying ½ + and 3 2 + baryons as well as their excitations. The model is further checked by calculating some standard baryon properties.
