necrology Vol. 48, No. 11, November 1967 Long range forecasting A paper presented to the American Meteorological Society (October 1965) suggested a relation- through application of six ship between phase dates and tornado activity and indicated a method of long range forecasting day weather types to 72 day of high probability dates for rash type tornado outbreaks. An extension of this study points cycle to a forecast method for certain major weather events months, or years in advance. Application of the technique has been demonstrated on both coasts, on WCBS-TV in New York City and HARRY GEISE KCBS in San Francisco. It is suggested that similar results should be investigated for Europe.
