45 BEACON LETTER FROM HEADQUARTERS TWO MAJOR STUDENT PROGRAMS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS arly in the summer, I par ticipated in the AMS ways to signif icantly supplement donations by AMS members in suppor t of students. As these new pro- Weather, Water, and Climate Congressional E Visits Day, which provided an oppor tunity for grams spun up, effor ts to greatly increase member- suppor ted undergraduate scholarships were also members of the AMS community to visit legislative off ices on Capitol Hill to build relationships and of- successful, and new named scholarships have been added almost yearly ever since. As a result, the total fer their exper tise in suppor t of the policy process.
