Abstract The authors have succeeded in producing a complete, up-to-date treatise on the vitreous. A large portion of the text comes from the enormous experiences of these world-renowned retinal surgeons. The tendency of overemphasizing personal viewpoints and biases is well balanced by adequate references to other investigators. The first third of the book is devoted to a lucid description of essential background material necessary for a thorough understanding and productive evaluation of the vitreous. Interwoven with basic anatomical facts are the latest pertinent biochemical and microscopical considerations. The section on slit-lamp examination of the vitreous cavity is exceptionally well illustrated. The second third of the text comprises a detailed description of virtually all vitreoretinal diseases.
